SO YOU’VE BEEN REFERRED TO US FOR FAMILY SEPARATION MATTERS...
Your lawyer or the Family Court of Australia has referred you to counselling for ‘anger management’ or family conflict at Adelaide Narrative.
FOR LEGAL PRACTITIONERS
Adelaide Narrative Therapy accepts clients where violence has been alleged in family separation matters. Counselling invites clients to take full personal responsibility for their actions and the effects of their actions on the child/ren and other parent, and considers ways in which the client would like to improve all relationships in their lives.

“For me, forgiveness and compassion are always linked: how do we hold people accountable for wrongdoing and yet at the same time remain in touch with their humanity enough to believe in their capacity to be transformed?”
― bell hooks
WHY IS NARRATIVE THERAPY AND INVITATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITY PREFERRED FOR ADDRESSING PROBLEMS OF POWER, INJUSTICE AND SENSE OF SELF?
Many talking therapies are available focussing on general or specific issues, as are good therapists, counsellors and psychologists. Evidence demonstrates that the quality of the therapeutic connection is most helpful to the client. Beyond this different therapies think about human relationships and change in different ways - through different lenses.

Narrative Therapy and Invitational Accountability counselling focus on the way our individual lives and sense of self (identity) are shaped by social attitudes, values and powerful relationships. It sees mental health as contextual to a persons' life, experience and web of relationships and culture. We are not who we are in a vacuum.
